Nutrition Program

Mealtime is important for both informal nutrition education and for pleasant conversation. Menus are posted listing the meal plan for one month at a time. Meals are prepared on the premises without the use of additives or preservatives. The Center participates in the North Carolina Child and Adult Care Food program. There is no discrimination in the course of food service. Children in attendance are served the same meals at no separate charge, regardless of sex, race, color, handicap, religion, national origin, or ancestry.

As one element of a total learning environment, children and teachers sit together in their classrooms and enjoy family style dining at each meal.

A breakfast snack will be served in the children's rooms every morning. Please check with your on-site administrators for serving times. 

Lunch is prepared in our own kitchen and is served between 11:00 am and 12:30 noon.  This meal will provide one-third of the daily dietary allowances as established by the USDA, Food and Nutrition Board.  The meal will contain one food from the bread, milk, and meat groups & two foods from the fruit/vegetable group.  The quantity will reflect the developmental needs of the age of the child. 

Afternoon snack will begin at 2:00 pm.  The snack will have nutrient value and contain food from two of the four basic food groups.

Menus will be posted in the lobby on the parent bulletin board at each site.

Special Dietary Needs - If your child has a special dietary need for allergies or religious child nutrition medical statement by the child's doctor must be on file. The doctor is to complete the form indicating which foods the child can or cannot have.  Please be sure to talk with your child's teach about special food needs. reasons, a copy of a signed child nutrition medical statement by the child's doctor must be on file.
